I was born in the 1970s and grew up in a family shaped by instability, chronic stress, trauma, and loss. My mother was deeply career-driven, while my father—a Vietnam veteran—was largely absent and lived a life impacted by addiction.

As an adult, I married and divorced young and later became a parent to two sons, both born prematurely with neurodevelopmental differences. One was also born with a physical condition that required years of medical intervention and therapy.

Over time, I experienced significant hardship, including financial insecurity, professional setbacks, housing instability, relational and pet loss, compromised health, threats to personal safety, and deep emotional challenges.

In 2013, during a period marked by relational harm, I was faced with one of the most painful decisions of my life—one that irrevocably altered both my personal and professional path. What followed was not simply loss, but a long and intentional journey of healing, reflection, and meaning-making.

However, it is this journey that led me to a profound conviction: no one should ever have to grieve alone. Through this lens, I pursued advanced education and now devote my work to supporting others through grief with care, dignity, and compassion.
